Butterfly class
Our theme over the last couple of terms has been Childhood.
The children have enjoyed learning all about life in the 1950's and key events that happened in the 1950's, like the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. They compared what life was like in the 1950's to how life is today and were fascinated to discover that the TV was black and white and that milk was delivered to peoples house!
The children looked at the different stages of their life, from being a baby, right up to being elderly.
In Geography the children have enjoyed looking at maps and have learnt about the different continents in the world, as well as focusing on the United Kingdom and the 4 countries that are part of the UK. Science has been interesting, as the children have been thinking about different materials and their properties. This helped them with their Design Technology, as we have been thinking about different shelters and what materials would be good for building shelters used for different purposes. We finished off by combining the knowledge learnt in science and DT to carry out an experiment, where the children decided which material would be best for building a waterproof shelter for a reindeer.
The children have loved becoming artists and have been learning lots about colour mixing and talking about colour in pictures and creating their own versions of the Kandinsky Circles.
In RE the children learnt about 'Being Special' where they thought about who was special to them and why, as well as thinking about what makes them special. They also thought about why Church is a special place for Christian people. The children really enjoyed learning all about the Christmas Story and have enjoyed using the Nativity figures in the classroom to act out some of the story. The children had an amazing experience, making Christingles with their parents and then performing a wonderful service to them, with singing and lighting of the candles.
We have had lots of fun over the last couple of terms in Butterfly Class and we enjoy coming to school to learn new things.
