Vision and values

Because of the context of our church school and our community’s needs, our school vision is:

Drawing on the teachings of Jesus in his parable of the mustard seed, our infant school family provides a nurturing environment in which each unique person from modest beginnings can flourish and grow abundantly. We celebrate diversity, develop knowledge, skills and attitudes for 21st century living and through the values of faith and love provide nourishment for each of our futures. “From the smallest of seeds fed with faith and love, our St John’s family will flourish and grow.”

The school’s vision is usually articulated by all stakeholders through the verbalisation of its final line: From the smallest of seeds fed with faith and love, our St John’s family will flourish and grow.” This paraphrasing is taken from Matthew 13:31 in which Jesus encourages people to have faith in God to lead them to a better future. He tells them that even with a little faith mighty changes can happen - just like with a tiny mustard seed the biggest and strongest of trees can grow. We believe that the growth of the mustard seed symbolises the future of the infant children in our small and humble school.

The image associated with our vision was designed by the children themselves and consists of a tree sitting in nurturing hands where the birds of Heaven have come to rest. If you look closely at the image, you will see right at the core where the tree begins to grow are faith and love - the 2 small 'seeds' (school values) that all within our school rests upon.

Our Christian vision is the underpinning of all life within the school. It is expressed everywhere and by everybody. As a result of this, all decisions at St John's are made with consideration to it and all policies, practices and behaviour are built upon it.

Once a term, we hold a school Vision and Values Day where everybody at every level and age group revisit the Christian intention of the school (the vision) and reflect on how we currently live it and could live it better in the future.
