YR Butterflies Class - term 2a
Our dinosaur topic has taken us on an exciting journey back in time! We explored a range of different dinosaurs and found out fascinating facts using non-fiction books. We shared our learning through writing and used our knowledge to design and create our own imaginative dinosaurs. The children loved going on a dinosaur hunt, following clues around the classroom to discover which dinosaurs they could find. We used a variety of resources and materials to design and make dinosaur models, developing our creativity and problem-solving skills.
Alongside this, we enjoyed reading lots of dinosaur stories, which inspired our Drawing Club sessions where we drew and wrote about characters and settings.
In maths, we have been learning numbers to 8, developing our subitising skills with larger numbers and investigating even and odd numbers by finding doubles. We also explored weight and measurement using a range of different resources. We used scales to find objects that weighed the same and to discover which objects were heavy or light. Finally, we have looked at time by testing how many actions we can complete in a minute.
In Religion and World Views, we have explored different stories from the New Testament about Jesus and the miracles he performed. We looked at different parables and discussed what messages they might bring to people.
YR Butterflies Class - term 2b
This term in Reception, our topic has been “Ready, Steady, Grow!”, where we have been busy exploring food, plants, and how things grow.
The children have loved getting hands-on with nature. We carried out a science experiment using beans to discover what plants need to grow, and we have planted a variety of flowers, herbs, and vegetables in our outdoor area. With the warmer weather, we have also spent lots of time learning and exploring outside, which has been a wonderful way to bring our topic to life.
In English, we have been developing our writing skills by sequencing stories, describing different fruits, and writing about what we have learned. We have been working hard to use full sentences, including capital letters and full stops.
In Maths, the children have been learning about doubles and numbers bonds to 10, as well as exploring shapes and patterns through a range of practical and engaging activities.
We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the natural world this term and are excited for the children to continue using what they have learnt during the Easter break!
