Term 1

Squirrel Class have had a very busy term settling into Year 1. They know the routines of the classroom, we have learnt where everything is kept and together, we have established our class rules, so that our classroom is a happy and safe place to learn.

In Maths we have been learning about equals, more than, less than and have started uses different maths symbols <, > and =. We have also spent some time learning about ordinal numbers and have we have enjoyed playing different activities and explaining who came first, second, third and so on. We have recently started using the additional symbol and number bonds to 10.

In English this term we have been exploring ‘I want my hat back’. We have designed their own hats and enjoyed playing different hat games. We have explained what different types of hats that there are and why we need to wear different types of hats. They have also designed their own St John’s hat.

What else has been happening this term?

In history we have been exploring Neil Armstrong and designed our own space rocket. In science we have learnt about all the different parts of the body and in PSHE Squirrel Class have been learning all about themselves, they have drawn some amazing portraits of themselves. We have had lots of fun dancing in PE.

Squirrel class really enjoyed the Harvest festival and did amazing singing in the Church. They also have lots of fun at the disco. I look forward to seeing the great progress all the children make in term 2
