This term Squirrel Class have been very busy learning all about themselves! - the children have painted portraits, written about their likes/dislikes and told the class what they would like to be when they grow up!
In Science we have been learning all about the five senses and naming lots of different body parts! As a class we drew around each other chalk and had a go at naming some of the body parts we had learnt.
In Maths we have been learning about addition and subtraction from 0-20 and perfecting the children's number recognition. We also spent a week learning all about 2D and 3D shapes! All of the children had fun exploring different shapes and putting them into different categories based on their properties.
In English this term we have been exploring 'The Gruffalo' story- the children have created their own scary monsters, gone on a walk through the park to collect materials for their own forest and even had a Gruffalo tea party!
What else has been happening this term?
Squirrel Class have had a very busy term settling into Year 1. We know the routines of the classroom, we have learnt where everything is kept and together, we have established our class rules, so that our classroom is a happy and safe place to learn.
Squirrel class enjoyed a lovely afternoon making cakes and learning all about recipes and how to follow them! Everyone had a go at measuring the ingredients and even got to mix the bowl! Once the cakes had been cooked, the children wrote an independent piece of writing about their afternoon of baking!
Squirrel class really enjoyed learning all about Harvest in our 'Harvest Assembly' and donated lots of food supplies for 'caring hands'. I look forward to seeing the great progress all the children make in term 2!
