St John's

Church of England Infant School

A small school with a big heart, a great place to grow.

Term 1

This term Squirrel Class have been very busy learning  about themselves and their local area- the children have painted portraits, gone on a listening walk and learnt all about saving the environment!

In Science we have been learning all about the five senses and how we can live a healthy life!

In Maths we have been learning about addition and subtraction from 0-20 and perfecting the children's number recognition.

We have loved looking at the Gruffalo this term- creating our own wild beasts and learning about adjectives.

What else has been happening this term?

Squirrel Class have had a very busy term settling into Year 1. We know the routines of the classroom, we have learnt where everything is kept and together, we have established our class rules, so that our classroom is a happy and safe place to learn.

Squirrel Class thoroughly enjoyed a school trip to the Chatham Dockyard- we explored the ships, learnt how rope was made and had a great time in the outdoor adventure playground! We loved participating in the Harvest Festival, where the children sang two songs perfectly for their parents and peers!

Some of our Squirrel Class participated in Art Club this term- they created art out of natural resources, paints and lots of glitter! As a class we nominated our school council members, they have been doing a great job so far, helping out in daily worships and selling poppies to the students. Our class mascot 'Squirrel Nutkin' has visited many children this term, for their good behaviour and great work.
