Church of England Infant School

A small school with a big heart, a great place to grow.

Creating Confident Children

Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children.  Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in.  It plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community. We provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music, to develop the skills, to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms, and to begin to make judgments about the quality of music.

At St John's we make music an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. Singing lies at the heart of good music teaching. Our teaching focuses on developing the children’s ability to sing in tune and with other people.

We love to perform

We LOVE to sing!  Our children sing daily in Worship and at our regular trips to our Church, St Emmaus in Chatham.  Singing is also a large part of our Christmas production and class assemblies.

We have an external music teacher who visits to support our Year 1 and 2 children.  Our KS1 children also perform in the annual Medway Music Festival at Central Theatre in Chatham and for the past three years, our Year 2 children have sung in Chatham High Street for the switching on of the Christmas lights event!
